A successful interdiction does not have to end with the seizure, arrest, or traffic stop. Beyond the Stop: From Interdiction to Federal Investigation is a four-hour course designed to teach law-enforcement professionals how to take the next step after discovering narcotics, firearms, bulk currency, or other contraband during an interdiction encounter.
The course walks students through the transition from the initial interdiction to a broader criminal investigation, with an emphasis on identifying investigative opportunities that may reveal larger criminal networks and transnational criminal organizations. Students will learn what actions should be considered immediately following a significant seizure, how to preserve and exploit evidence, and how information obtained during the interdiction can be used to develop additional investigative leads.
Topics include evidence preservation, investigative deconfliction, digital and forensic evidence, financial and communications-related investigative considerations, border and travel information, intelligence development, and coordination with federal and other law-enforcement partners. The course also discusses how investigators can move beyond the individual courier or seizure to identify facilitators, suppliers, coordinators, and other members of the criminal network.
Designed as a natural follow-on to an interdiction course, Beyond the Stop shifts the focus from finding the contraband to determining where it came from, where it was going, who is behind it, and how the initial stop can become the starting point for a larger federal or transnational investigation.

The instructor is a seasoned federal law-enforcement professional with more than 17 years of investigative, supervisory, leadership, and instructional experience. Throughout his career, he has worked complex criminal investigations involving narcotics trafficking, firearms trafficking, violent crime, gangs, transnational criminal organizations, and other federal offenses.
His experience includes assignments at the local, regional, national, and international levels, including serving overseas in a federal law-enforcement capacity. This international experience provided firsthand exposure to the complexities of investigations that extend beyond U.S. borders and the coordination required between domestic law-enforcement agencies, foreign counterparts, and international partners. His career experience has allowed him to bridge the gap between domestic and international federal investigations and understand how criminal activity identified during a local encounter can develop into a multi-jurisdictional or transnational investigation.
He has supervised and participated in multi-agency investigations and task-force operations involving federal, state, local, and international law-enforcement partners. His experience includes developing investigations beyond the initial enforcement action to identify broader criminal networks, facilitators, organizations, and cross-border connections.
In addition to his operational experience, he has extensive experience developing and delivering law-enforcement training on investigations, leadership, supervision, field training, and investigative techniques. His instructional approach emphasizes practical application and provides officers and investigators with concepts and resources they can take back to their agencies and apply to real-world investigations.
Through Beyond the Stop: From Interdiction to Federal Investigation, he brings together years of domestic and international investigative experience to help law-enforcement professionals recognize that a successful interdiction can be more than a seizure or arrest—it can serve as the starting point for identifying, disrupting, and dismantling a larger criminal network.
